Privacy Policy for Protein Dashboard
Last updated: 16 October 2026
Protein Dashboard helps you track the protein you eat. This page says what the app stores, what leaves your phone, and what you can delete.
The short version
- Your protein log lives on your phone.
- You use the app either with an anonymous account or by signing in with Apple. Either way, we do not ask for your name or email.
- When you ask for an AI estimate, the text or photo you provide is sent to an AI service to produce it. This is optional and you can turn it off.
- You can delete all of your data from inside the app, in one step.
What stays on your phone
Your log (days, food names and grams) and your settings (bodyweight, units and goal) are stored on your phone. If you use the app without signing in, your log is not sent to us. (Text or photos you submit for an AI estimate are sent, as described below.)
Accounts
The app always works through an account, in one of two forms.
An anonymous account. When you tap “Continue without an account”, you are not signing in, but the app does create an anonymous account for you: a random ID with no name, email or other detail about you. It exists so that the app’s AI features can’t be misused. With it you can use everything in the app.
Sign in with Apple. If you sign in with Apple, Apple gives us an identifier for you that works only with this app. We do not ask Apple for your name or your email. Signing in gives you the same account if you reinstall the app or change iPhones. It does not change what the app can do.
Backup
Your log and your settings are stored on your iPhone. If you use iPhone backup, they are included in your iPhone’s backup. We do not keep a copy of your log on our server.
AI estimates
The app can estimate the protein in a food from a description you type or a photo you take. Before the first estimate the app asks for your permission, and you can change your choice in Settings at any time.
When you ask for an estimate:
- The description or photo is sent through our server to Anthropic, the company whose AI model makes the estimate.
- We send nothing with it that identifies you: no account ID and no network address.
- Our server does not store the description or the photo. The service that hosts our server has its own records of requests. They do not include the description or the photo.
- Anthropic normally deletes what it receives within 30 days. It may keep it longer if it is flagged for breaking Anthropic’s usage rules or if the law requires it. By default Anthropic does not use it to train its models.
Please keep faces and documents out of the photos you take for estimates.
Usage counts
To keep the AI features available to everyone, our server counts how many estimates each account asks for per day and per minute. These counts hold numbers only, not what you asked about. A second copy of these counts may be kept in a separate project with the same hosting provider, so the limits keep working if the first has a fault. They are kept while your account exists and removed when you delete it.
Barcode scanning
When you scan a barcode, the barcode number is sent to Open Food Facts, a public food database, to look up the product. As with any internet request, Open Food Facts can see the network address the request comes from.
Server logs
The services that host our server keep their own records. We use them only to keep the service running and secure.
Advertising, tracking and analytics
- The app does not show advertising and contains no advertising software.
- The app does not track you across other apps or websites.
- The app contains no analytics software.
- The app does not ask for your location.
- We do not sell your data. We share it only with the services named on this page, for the purposes named.
Who else handles data
| Service | What it handles | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Accounts, usage counts, technical logs. Held in the United States. | Hosts our server and sign-in |
| Anthropic | The text or photo of an estimate, with nothing identifying you | Makes the estimate |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple | Signs you in |
| Open Food Facts | The barcode you scan | Finds the product |
Apple also provides the App Store. If you have chosen to share crash reports and usage figures with app developers in your iPhone’s settings, Apple may share those with us.
Deleting your data
- One entry: delete it in the app.
- Everything: tap the account icon at the top, then Delete All Data. It deletes your account and everything we hold in it. After you confirm, the app deletes your log and settings from your iPhone and your account and usage counts from our server. If you signed in with Apple, Apple then asks you to confirm once, and the app is removed from your Apple sign-in. This needs an internet connection and cannot be undone. Deletion starts at once; technical logs kept by the services that host our server expire on their own schedule.
- What is outside our reach: a copy of your log inside your own iPhone backup, or in a backup on a computer, which stays until you remove it (the steps are on our support page); your log on another iPhone of yours; text or photos already sent for estimates, which the AI service keeps for a limited time under its own terms, with nothing that identifies you; barcodes already looked up at Open Food Facts; and any crash reports Apple has shared.
- If you only delete the app without using Delete All Data, the data on your iPhone is removed, but a random account ID and its counts stay on our server, connected to nothing that identifies you.
Children
Protein Dashboard is intended for people aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a younger person has used the app with an account, contact us and we will delete that account’s data.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
